Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 25, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how [LEGAL ENTITY NAME] (“HerCoterie,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use the HerCoterie website and related services (the “Service”). It applies in addition to our Terms and Conditions.

By using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Who We Are

HerCoterie is operated by [LEGAL ENTITY NAME], a [STATE] [ENTITY TYPE], with a registered business address at [BUSINESS ADDRESS]. For privacy questions, contact [PRIVACY EMAIL].

The Service is operated from the United States and intended for users located in the United States.

If you believe you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction where this Service should not be available to you, please do not use the Service and contact us so that any information about you can be deleted.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide

  • Access request information. When you request membership, we collect your first name, last name, email address, date of birth (to confirm you are at least 18), and any additional information you provide in the request form.
  • Account information. When your account is approved and created, we store your email, display name, hashed password, and account metadata (creation date, role, verified status).
  • Profile and content. Any content you submit, including reviews, ratings, pricing data, comments, forum posts, uploaded photos, and reactions.
  • Communications. Emails, support requests, and other messages you send to us.

Information collected automatically

  • Usage data. Pages viewed, links clicked, referring URLs, search queries, time stamps, and similar interactions with the Service.
  • Device and connection data. IP address, browser type, operating system, device identifiers, and language preferences.
  • Cookies and similar technologies. Authentication cookies to keep you signed in. We also use analytics cookies or similar technologies to measure aggregate usage, but these are placed only after you click Accept in our cookie consent banner.
  • Error and performance data. Diagnostic and error reports we use to detect, debug, and improve issues with the Service. This data is collected on every page load and is not currently gated by the cookie consent banner; we anonymize where possible.

Information from third parties

  • Provider data. When you search for or review a home service provider, we may retrieve provider details (such as name, address, and location identifiers) from third-party mapping or location-data services.

We do not knowingly collect special categories of personal data (e.g., racial or ethnic origin, religion, biometric data, precise geolocation). Please do not include such information in your reviews or profile.

Categories of personal information

For purposes of California privacy law, the categories of personal information described above include:

  • Identifiers — first and last name, email address, IP address, device identifiers, and account identifiers.
  • Customer records — contact and account information associated with your membership.
  • Internet or network activity — pages viewed, links clicked, search queries, referring URLs, and similar interactions with the Service.
  • Approximate geolocation — derived from IP address; we do not collect precise geolocation.
  • Audio, visual, or similar information — photos you upload as part of your profile or content.
  • Inferences — aggregate usage patterns we derive from the categories above to operate and improve the Service.

We collect these categories from you directly, automatically as you use the Service, and (for provider details only) from third-party mapping or location-data services. We use them for the purposes described in “How We Use Information” below, and we disclose them only to the categories of recipients described in “How We Share Information.”

3. How We Use Information

We use the information described above to:

  • evaluate access requests, create and manage your account, and authenticate you;
  • verify that you meet our minimum age requirement of 18 years;
  • operate the Service, including displaying reviews, ratings, and provider information;
  • send transactional emails (password resets, notifications, account updates);
  • respond to your questions and requests, and provide customer support;
  • monitor, secure, and improve the Service, including detecting fraud, abuse, and policy violations;
  • analyze aggregate usage patterns to make product decisions;
  • comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.

We do not use your reviews, posts, photos, or other member content to train third-party artificial-intelligence or machine-learning models.

4. How We Share Information

We do not sell or share your personal information for monetary or other valuable consideration, and we do not share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Because we do not sell or share personal information, we do not process Global Privacy Control (GPC), Do Not Track (DNT), or similar browser opt-out signals — there is nothing to opt out of. We disclose personal information only as described below.

Service providers

We engage third-party service providers to operate the Service. Each receives only the personal information necessary to perform its function, is bound by contractual confidentiality and security obligations, and is prohibited from using your information for its own purposes. These service providers fall into the following categories:

  • application hosting, edge delivery, and content delivery;
  • database and object storage;
  • transactional email and notification delivery;
  • error monitoring, performance monitoring, and analytics;
  • mapping and location data services;
  • other professional service providers (for example, legal, accounting, or fraud-prevention vendors).

We may add, remove, or change service providers from time to time. Personal data is stored in the United States.

Other community members

Reviews, ratings, comments, forum posts, and the display name on your profile are visible to other approved members. By default your display name is derived from the first name and last initial you provide at signup; you can change it in your profile settings. Do not include information in your posts that you do not want other members to see.

Legal and safety

We may disclose information if we believe in good faith it is necessary to: (a) comply with a valid legal process (subpoena, court order, search warrant); (b) enforce our Terms; (c) protect the safety of any person or the public; or (d) investigate fraud or abuse.

Business transfers

If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to standard confidentiality protections.

5. Cookies and Tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies for:

  • Authentication. A session cookie keeps you signed in. This cookie is strictly necessary and is set when you sign in.
  • Analytics. Aggregate, non-identifying usage of the Service is measured by a first-party analytics tool. Analytics cookies are placed only after you click Accept in our cookie consent banner. If you click Decline, no analytics cookies are set and the analytics script is not loaded.

Most browsers allow you to refuse cookies or alert you when a cookie is being placed. Disabling strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from signing in.

Withdrawing analytics consent. You can withdraw your consent for analytics at any time by clearing your browser's site data for HerCoterie, which will cause the consent banner to reappear on your next visit. An in-product control to manage this preference is planned.

6. Data Retention

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to provide the Service and to satisfy legal, accounting, or reporting obligations.

  • Account data is retained for the life of your account. To request that your account be closed, email [PRIVACY EMAIL]. Closure deactivates the account and is distinct from deletion; the retention rules below continue to apply to content you posted.
  • Content you post (reviews, comments, forum topics, forum posts, and other contributions) is retained for the life of the account and the Service. Where the Service provides a control to delete a specific item you have posted, you may use that control at any time. For content that does not yet have a self-service delete control, you may email us; we will evaluate the request against our community-integrity policies and applicable law.
  • Access request data is retained for [N] months after a decision and then deleted.
  • Server logs and analytics are typically retained for up to 90 days.
  • Email records are retained per our email provider's defaults.

7. Security

We protect personal data using industry-standard measures, including encryption in transit, salted one-way hashing of passwords, and least-privilege access controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

If we become aware of a data breach that affects your personal data, we will notify you and applicable authorities as required by law.

8. Children's Privacy

HerCoterie is intended for adults 18 years of age and older. We require date of birth at registration to confirm eligibility, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe we have collected information from a minor, contact [PRIVACY EMAIL] and we will delete it.

9. Privacy Inquiries and State Privacy Laws

HerCoterie does not offer self-service tools to download a copy of your personal information or to delete your account. If you have questions or concerns about our handling of your personal information, you may contact us at [PRIVACY EMAIL].

Depending on the state where you reside, you may have rights under state privacy law (for example, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act) with respect to personal information held by businesses that meet certain thresholds. State privacy laws differ in what rights they grant and which businesses they cover. To inquire about rights you may have under your state's law, contact us at [PRIVACY EMAIL]. We will evaluate each inquiry and respond as required by applicable law. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a deletion or data-copy request, to protect against fraudulent requests. We will not retaliate against any user for making a privacy inquiry or exercising rights they have under applicable law.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you (for example, by email or in-product notice) and update the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
